Permission granted to hate the Kafkaesque Government bureaucracy. My MS in Plant Science with a BA isn’t good enough for an entry level position that requires a BS. And that BS is pre-requisite to apply for Inspector requiring an MS. “Paging Franz Kafka. Paging Franz Kafka.” Recap: I applied for an Agricultural Inspector I position with the LA County Ag Commissioner about two months ago. Never heard back at all. Coincidentally, today, I was having my hives inspected for a producers certificate, and the inspector said I should follow up as “those online apps” disappear (!). So I called, and sure enough, they did receive my app, but they turned me down as I lacked two licenses, and a year experience. The licenses I can get. No big deal. But I asked, “How do I get a year’s experience?” They replied, “Apply for Assistant Inspector position, but you need a BS Agriculture to apply (minimum) and you have a BA.” Shocked, I stammer, “But I have an MS in Plant Science, and a BA in Humanities!” “Sorry, you are ineligible! But we’re working on fixing th
at.” “Is this discussed as an open/public meeting?” I inquire. “No” she replied WTF! I have more academic experience than an undergrad!
