Our food safety is an illusion.  The only thing safe about the food we eat is the package it came in–all neat and tidy and fits right into the box, that fit right in the carton, that fit right on the pallet, that fit right on the truck, that fit right on the cargo container, that fit right on the freighter.   Geez! You need a food flow chart to trace your purchase back to the horror show of its origins.  That’s why it’s important to BUY LOCAL!  The path back to the producer is short–not perfect–just shorter.
